Pink Oyster

The Meaty Mushroom!

The delicate pink flower-like mushroom is perhaps most reminiscent of a gorgeous coral reef; at least one that is edible. Its florets grow in layered clusters of tapered bunches, and have a distinct color which turns light to golden brown when cooked.

Flavour & Texture

The pink oyster mushroom has a slight seafood-like, mildly nutty flavor & gives a chewy tender texture when prepared. Cooked to a crisp or left slightly tender, it serves as a delicious dish topper and accompaniment to many fusion cuisines.

Preparation

  1. Do not wash the pink oyster mushroom, rather brush off dirt, if any from the florets you plan to prepare
  2. In case cleansing is required, you may wipe gently with a damp paper towel
  3. You’ll find the clusters attached together by a little woody stem at the base of the pink oyster mushroom bunch. That bit is slightly chewy, so it is best to trim off the stem with a sharp knife
  4. Once the floret is separated, you may slice it into smaller pieces. You can also tear apart the florets gently by hand or slice with a knife. Pink oyster florets may be cooked whole as well

How Best to Cook

Pink oyster mushrooms typically take around 5-7 minutes to cook. They require thorough cooking in order to develop their flavor.

Pink oyster mushrooms can be sautéd, boiled, roasted, or, our favorite method; fried.

They can be sautéed or stir-fried with other vegetables, added to saucy pasta dishes & sprinkled on top of pizza or stewed in soups.

Details to note when cooking

Pink oyster mushrooms lose their vibrant pink color when cooked, and turn golden brown.
